Because now everything is possible..

On the morning meal Jonas lied for the first time, he said he didn't dream that day. On school Jonas felt apart because everybody was talking about his training and he couldn't. When he arrived to the ANEX with Fiona he realized that her hair “changed” again! He quickly told the Giver and he explained to him that he was starting to see a quality called color. Jonas was very confused so the giver gave his the memory of a rainbow. Through weeks of training he started seeing all the colors on his daily life, but the colors didn't last. Soon Jonas started seeing the colors for hours before they vanished and the Giver is starting to transmit painful memories such as the elephant hunt, hunger, breaking a leg witch was very painful and he wasn't permitted to take medicine. He learned many things such as that they were ones real animals and that people used to have different colors of skin. The giver told him that he could apply for a spouse but it wouldn't be easy because half of his life will be hidden from his family, he also shared with him that the memories of the last receiver failed the memories she had vanished they were released and they never came back to the giver’s. Gabriel was improving a lot so Jonas had the chance to sleep with him on his room, when Gabriel started crying Jonas tried to give him a memory and he realized that the memory was transmits to Gabriel, how is this possible?! 

“You'll be able to apply for a spouse,Jonas, if you want to.I’ll warn you though that it will be difficult. (102)

This part made be feel very very sad for Jonas. I just try to imagine how hard it would be to have a family and have to hide half of your life from them. You will live such a lonely life carrying all that Knowledge  and having no one to share it with1 Poor Jonas he has a hole life full of pain and loneliness waiting. Also I really don't get it why he can apply for a souse but have to hide half of his life form her, also why can't he share this memories or at least the good memories with only his family?

 

“Why do you and I have to hold this memories?”(110)

Poor Jonas he is starting to realize how unfair this is for him. Why can everyone have these memories? Why doe he has to be miserable? Why is he the only one that suffers? What did he do to deserve it? He is starting to realize that this is just the beginning and he has so much more to receive and he can’t have any medication or share his pain with anyone but the giver! Now more than ever he feels lonely, sad, and even angry because he can’t understand what he did or why he of all the community has to carry al this suffering!

This few chapters confused me a little bit, specially the part when Jonas was able to transmit the memory of a sail boat to Gabe but not to Asher! What is different about Gabe? is it their pale light eyes? or is he also able to be a receiver? All this questions with answers yet lets hope Gabriele's future will be the best! Also it really made me wonder about Jonas happiness on the future with his family.Will he apply for a spouse?

When the ceremony of twelve ended Jonas took his folder of instructions home and started reading there were very few instructions. Some of those instructions worried Jonas. As the instruction that said he can't apply for medication for any illness that has to do with his training.Three were other instructions such as you may lie, you may not apply for release, you can't share you dreams or that he could ask any question to any citizen and he will receive  answers. His first day of training had arrived he entered quietly to the Annex and saw this room full of books witch represent knowledge and watching all this books was very weird for Jonas because the normal dwelling only have 3 books.then he saw this really old man it was the receiver, he explained to his that this work had consumed him and he wasn't that old,then he also explained to him about being the receiver and what it implies. He told him that he will carry all the memories of the whole world, all that had happened before them.Jonas was very confused so he made an example, he turned the speaker off (with was something he had never seeing because t do that you had to have a lot of power), when this was done he put his hand on his bare back. Jonas felt something cold he transmitted him the memory of snow, sled and hill, he made Jonas have fun on the sled and the snow. Jonas was confused he had never experience something like that so the receiver tried something else he gave him the memory of sunshine and this time he was able to recognize the name of this hot feeling he knew it was named sunshine, and finally he gave hi the memory of sunburn witch was painful and made Jonas understand why his training will be painful. He explained that they didn't have snow because of agriculture and nether hills because they made transportation difficult but he also told him that before the community started implementing the idea of sameness all this things were pat of his daily life.And the the receiver told him to call him the giver ande explained that each time he have him a memory he lost that memory and felt relieved.

On his folder of instructions for being the receiver Jonas has the indication that he may lie. This rule confused be as much as how it confused Jonas. All this years of his life they had being teaching him that everyone is the same no one is more special.But by giving this rules that also included prohibiting form dream telling makes him feel different makes him think that he had different rights and that everyone is viewing him as a more important person in the community. Why after all this years of being equal they are making him feel different and superior? This instruction that permitted him to lie made him think that all this years him parents had being lying to him and he feels frustrated because he has no way to figure out if his predictions are right.


"Im glad you gave it to me.Now I understand better, what it meant, that there would be pain."(86)
When the giver gave Jonas that painful memory of sunshine I was able to realize that that little memory had caused a lot of pain and it was a very simple thing.  It maid me wonder and worried about how much pain will cause him the millions of painful memories he needs to receive? Is he strong enough? He is just a kid! But I also think the giver was very nice at giving him this memory of sunburn the first day of his training so he can realize that this is not a joke. Also it was a very good  for him to be prepared when the time of receive those painful memories arrive.


Even though his first day of training has clear up  lot of his doubts, he is still scared about the pain he will receive  and he dosen't understand why cant he receive medication! Jonas is just starting to life his new life and starting to realize what he will have to face and what  really means to be the receiver of memories but also he is opening his eyes to see that there is a hole new world waiting to be discovered and a lifetime to go!

chapter 6,7,8

Are you ready for chapters 6,7 & 8?

Every year until you are a twelve something changes, when you become a 8 you start your volunteer hours, when you become a ten women lost their braids and boys cut their hair exposing their ears,when you become a nine you get your bicycle, but some  of this changes were more important such as the ceremony of twelve ,when you become a twelve you got your assignment and become and adult. On this three chapters the ceremony has started lily became an eight and the elders gave Gabriel an additional year on the nurturing so he can reach the standards and het a family the following year.On the other side Asher received the assignment of assistant director of recreation, but when the turn of Jonas came they skipped his number(nineteen)they continued with the kid number 20. But this was for a reason the chief elder witch is  leader of the community and was in charge of the ceremony gave the announcement that Jonas hasn't been assigned he has been selected to be the next receiver of memories.Jonas was very confused that selection was very rare.The chief elder start explaining that his training must be given by the current receiver(witch also had light eyes) and it would involve a lot of physical pain that nobody has experience except the receiver. She also added that they had chosen him   because he had the 4 requirements to be a receiver: intelligence,integrity,courage, wisdom and a capacity that only he and the receiver has witch  is the ability to see beyond. When the chief elder said this 5 capacity he had the crowd changed just like the apple did and he realize that that "change" he was able to see was his ability to see beyond and he would developed it while his training. Once the chief elder ended the hole community started to whisper his  name and he realized he was being accepted.


"But when he looked across the crowd, the sea of faces,the thing happened again. The thing that had happened with the apple.
They changed."(63)
This quite really got me thinking about the apple and Jonas. What is that that is changing on the apple and what changed on the ceremony? We just know something changes but what can it be, are the receivers the only ones that can see that change on things?Is that what makes Jonas the chosen one for being the new receiver of memories? Everything about the apple and the crowd changing confuses me, i've being thinking that what if the fact that Jonas saw the apple and the crow changing is something negative?


"But at the same time he was filled with fear. He didn't know what he was to become.
Or what would become of him."(64)
this quote makes me fill sad about Jonas. He has given the assignment of receiver he   don'ts understands and all the community  has putted so high expectations on him, This tells us that the community is not fare people deserve to make mistakes and one mistake for Jonas,the new receiver in training, can cost him a very high price. Jonas only expects fear and physical pain just as the chief elder told him. But nobody except the receiver feels that kind of pain, he will be alone apart from everybody. All does things Jonas is so confuse he doesn't know what he will become or what his future will look like.

On this chapters we had seen how the community has continued to show us the injustice of its rules. Every person deserves to live a life and make mistakes because the best way to learn is by making mistakes in the process. Also we can see how Jonas has so high expectation on him and how he will eventually become the next receiver and he still dosen't know what to expect the only thing he knows is that there is a hole life of pain and adventure waiting for him.

5 chapters the giver

The Giver
chapters 1-5

This first chapters had mainly introduces us to the characters and their community. Jonas is a boy who is feeling apprehensive because his ceremony of twelve will come soon. The ceremony of twelve is the ceremony in witch kids are given their  assignment of what they will do for the rest of their life's. There were many assignments one of them were birthmothers witch was of very little honor. His best friend is Asher who talked very fast and didn't think a  lot before acting or talking. He spend a lot of important time with his father mother and sister lily they all shared their dreams at the morning and their feelings at dinner this is a rule on the community.Jonas mother worked at the department of justice and his dad was a nurturer. His father was very worried about a child named Gabriel witch had blue eyes such as Jonas, he was worried because if he wasn't strong enough he would be released so he asked permission to take it home for some time(he couldn't take him forever because it was a rule that on each family there should have 2 kids boy and a girl). Been released was the worst punishment it means you had to leave the community this could happened if you are too old(thats that good its a celebration)another one was if you had 3 transgressions and the last was if a baby was weak or not progressing as he should. On this community there were a lot of rules that banned the life of the citizens some were as simple as that you cant drive bicycle until your celebration of nine(lily was very close to be a nine),other rules are like the one of bragging:couldn't be proud of yourself that is rude saying it out loud and many more. To change a law the council of elders will approve it or not but the one that  has the last word is the receiver (the most important elder). One day Jonas was playing too catch an apple with Asher and he saw the apple changed so he decided to take it home. later he was called the attention on the speakers. Jonas wasn't able to figure it out why did the apple changed?Jonas was growing he had already had his first stirrings witch is sexual attraction and that is view as a desease on the community so he had to take pills.the community in witch Jonas lives regulated every aspect of their lifes.


"Lily sighed,I wish i get assigned to be a birth mother"
"Lily!" Mother spoke very sharply. "Don't say that. there is very little honor on that assignment."(21)
tThis part of the story in witch lily thinks on being a birth mother really confused me and makes me reflect a lot. Why should they be birth mothers? Why cant each women has its own baby's, this is kind of sad imagine that they made you only had three baby's for other people and then you go to be a laborer for the rest of your life's. wouldn't they deserve a thanks instead of discriminating them? Why is it view as little honor to be a birth mother if with out them the community wouldn't exist they are the ones that make the community grow.

"Usually, at the morning ritual when the family members told their dreams."(34) 
I think this ritual of the morning and the nights  are not to make them feel better by telling how they feel or what they dreamed. The elders do this because they already have control over their acts but they cant control what people feel, so by hearing what they are feeling or their dreams(witch reflect what its on their minds) they are able to not only control on what each person do but also what they are feeling and thinking. Know also what is on their  citizens mind means that they have total control over each person in their community.


In conclusion this chapters were very important. We got to learn how this community works and how this people thinks about their community. This community is very unfair with its citizens its not giving them the freedom to live. They control too much the life's of their people leaving them with no rights. But the people that lives there are blind by the council and can't see the reality of their lives. maybe Jonas will realize the type of live he is living. he already saw something strange with that apple.do you think he will just ignore that situation of the apple or will that be the start to a big confusion?

How much control should the government have over its community?

The government should have a limit when it comes to the control it should have over its citizens, governments should have the control to just put their people some restrictions so they can keep everybody on task and maintain them from doing bad things that will eventually guide them to a consequence. They shouldn't overcome.or tell their citizens what to do but they can guide them to do the right thing, and they shouldn't overcome on the individual life or act of every citizen.The government should keep it general and if there is a problem control it.The government should be aware that each citizen has its freedom and they should´t interfere on their private life's.

The true-man show is one of the best examples in witch the government has too much control on an specific citizen. The government kind of has Truman as a prisoner on this community. Christof is the government in this movie he controls the life of Truman on all the aspects.He modified every step he takes.The government hast total control over Truman witch is very unfair because it has so much power over him to such point that he live is fake. This government acts toward his beneficial (the show) and not towards the beneficial of his citizens(Truman).

In conclusion all types of governments should be fair and should have a limit of control when it comes to its citizens.The citizens should have freedom not as Truman. The government should limit some aspects of he citizens life's but just to keep them in track and not making them do bad things.they should act towards the beneficial of their community and not towards its beneficial. Not like in the Truman show every citizen should have the freedom to live a real and normal life.
